This painting was inspired by the Yellowstone River viewed from above, carving out new paths as it flows continuously through beautiful landscapes. Painted during 2020, I realized that it's also about the shape of our lives in that unusual year. Viewed from left to right, life was flowing along quite well until we all faced a common threat and were confined for a time. Our lives became restricted, both physically and emotionally. But now life is beginning to flow again as we branch out to explore this new world, each of us finding our own paths forward. Life is constantly flowing like a river, and we can't go back upstream to change the past. We can only flow downstream, choosing our path and meandering along to see where it takes us. Soft layers of blue, aqua and grey with hints of warmth bring a peaceful feeling of fluid motion to your space. Oil and alkyd paint, cold wax and oil pastel on three 2" deep cradled birch panels. Sides painted light grey. Three panels, each 40" x 30" (102 cm x 76 cm) When hung side by side, 40" x 94" (102 cm x 239 cm) Unframed, ready to hang.

“Painting is my lifelong passion. After a childhood filled with art and nine years as a fashion designer, I began studying traditional oil painting in the early 1990’s. I’ve been highly successful as a portrait, wildlife and western artist in the USA and Australia. I’ve pushed the boundaries of realism a bit and diversified my subjects over the years, but mostly stayed in the traditional realism box. I still love to paint the realism subjects I'm most known for. However, in the past few years I’ve found myself at a point in life where I have more to say than can be expressed through realism alone. Life events, losses and discoveries have all contributed to the thoughts that I want to express through my paintings. I’ve been flirting with ideas of abstraction for years, and at last I’ve found the courage to break out of that realism box and explore modern artistic concepts. After a lot of experimenting to discover what Krystii Melaine Modern looks like, a new collection of quietly elegant abstract works is emerging. They incorporate textures, metallic paint, beads, organic forms, lines and stories. I’m expressing my thoughts about life in all its aspects, and these new works will continue to evolve as I do. There are no boundaries. At last I’ve given myself permission to express myself in any way I like. The only rule is it must look fabulous. Come with me on this visual and emotional adventure!” Krystii is a Master Signature Member of the American Women Artists, and a member of the Portrait Society of America. * 26 paintings in museum collections in the USA and Australia. * More than 40 major awards. * Participated in more than 110 museum exhibitions in over 23 different museums. * 30 magazine articles, and appears in four books. * Millions of dollars’ worth of art sold to collectors around the world.
