About the Artist

Renata Kopac

United Kingdom

My practice is rooted in vibrant, expressive painting and explores the shifting boundary between abstraction and figuration. Working primarily in oil, I build each composition through layers of colour, gesture, texture, and form. This process creates depth, movement, and emotional intensity, allowing the painting to develop as both a physical and psychological space.
Painting is central to my existence. It is not only a visual language, but a way of thinking, feeling, and understanding the world. Through paint, I explore memory, emotion, identity, sensuality, and the relationship between inner experience and external reality.
Colour is the driving force in my work. It carries mood, energy, tension, and meaning. I use colour instinctively and deliberately, allowing it to shape the structure of the painting while also creating atmosphere and emotional resonance. Layers of colour overlap, dissolve, clash, and reconnect, forming surfaces that suggest movement, transformation, and hidden narratives.
I am strongly drawn to the physicality of paint. The texture of the brushstroke, the movement of the hand, and the direct relationship between body, material, and canvas are essential to my process. My paintings develop through spontaneous yet considered mark making. Each mark carries its own rhythm and intensity, moving between control and freedom, softness and force, stillness and motion.
