ABOUT THE ARTWORK

When I created this piece, I was thinking a lot about the difference between desire and love. It started after an intense moment in my life—one of those nights where you’re questioning everything. I used white to reflect that purity, the longing for something real, but the yellow—it’s hope, it’s that spark of wanting more, of reaching for something you can’t quite grasp. The gray? That’s the confusion, the in-between, where you don’t know if what you’re feeling is real or just fading. I used different fonts for the words "desire" and "love" because they’re never the same—they don’t belong to the same world. While I was drawing, I felt both the clarity and the uncertainty, like a push and pull inside me. This piece is me trying to understand that tension.

Hasanov Ibrahim Ruhulla oglu was born in Baku in 1953. He received his diploma from the University of Arts in 1982 after having graduated from Azim Azimzade State Art School in 1973. His versatility as a painter and sculptor has earned him a reputation among art lov-ers. Searches in different directions formed the basis of his creative biography. Baku hosted his debut solo show in 1990. Art enthusiasts were captivated by the di-versity of the exhibition’s genres, which included painting, sculpture, graphics, and “soft sculpture”—a creative outlet that breathed new life into his work. People from many countries, including Norway, Germany, and Turkey, expressed a strong interest in this genre. In 1991, the artist held his second solo exhibition in London. The London Museum purchased all the artworks on display. He joined the Azerbaijan Union of Artists in 1991. In 1995, he was personally invited to live and work in Turkey by Prime Minister Tansu Chillar. The artist’s studio is an absolute treasure chest of ideas and plans, including a mon-umental work honouring “Nuru Pasha and his Islamic army,” the “End to aggression” project dedicated to the Azerbaijani soldier, a sculpture of Baku philanthropist and millionaire Haji Zeynalabdin Tagiyev. A number of Ibrahim Hasanov’s creative works are housed in private collections, while others have been acquired by foreign museums and art galleries. There is a stone carving sculpture called “Waiting” in Tokyo’s Oriental Museum. This modest artist is also well-known for his charitable endeavours. For no charge, he sculpted busts of multiple Karabakh war martyrs. His expansive worldview, flawless ar-tistic vision, and patriotic spirit are on full display in works such as the Mubariz Ibra-himov bust in Gabala and the massive memorial built in honour of the Karabakh mar-tyrs in Keshla. Throughout Azerbaijan, you can find the artist’s monumental works. Recent years have seen the installation of a 3-meter sculpture of the famous publicist poet Mirza Alakbar Sabir in front of the museum that was once the poet’s home. In 2018, he also crafted a breathtaking composition before the equestrian club in Mehdiabad settlement. On December 15, 2023, the jubilee exhibition "Metamorphic transitions: 70/30" by Ibra-him Hasanov and his son Ruhulla Hasanzade was held at the Museum Center in Baku.
