My newer works tend toward a more chaotic drip motion rather than my history of line discovery leading to something definitive. I'm always thinking about what is going on in our universe while I work, so as the world has become more chaotic i.e. terrorism, political uncertainty, mass shootings, etc., my work reflects this sort of wild and unpredictable emotion not seen in my earlier works. As always, the names of my pieces pay homage to the classic rock music I grew up on (either a song title or a specific lyric). While its difficult to narrow it down, some of my favorite bands include The Rolling Stones, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Lynyrd Skynyrd, CCR, Joan Jett and the Black Hearts, Prince, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Eagles, Aerosmith, Bob Dylan, The Cure, Heart, and Willie Nelson. When I paint, I listen to all my favorite songs and think about life and perhaps the song's meaning, so I feel it would be disingenuous for me to NOT include their lyrics in my titles since these bands have been and will always be such a great influence. Fool Hearted Memory takes its title from the George Strait song of the same name. I did, after all, grow up in Texas and country music influenced who I am today. The stories country artists share are unparalleled in any other music genre, and because all artists are story tellers, it would be foolish to ignore their significance. No singer tells a story quite like George Strait.

Los Angeles based abstract and mixed media artist, Staci Cross, uses color, formation, and line discovery to express thoughtful, emotional imagery to the canvas. Staci believes the art is already in the room and that she is simply the vessel between what exists and what is seen. Committing to the work begets a blessing from the muses and therefore daily practice and time are essential to the process. Inspired by the abstract expressionist movement, pop art, cubism, and graffiti artists of the 70's and 80's, Staci's ever evolving connection to painting roots itself through music, Motherhood, photography, political commentary, pop culture, human energy and emotion, social awareness and the beauty of nature. Lately, Staci has been embarking on a new endeavor--working on the floor with unstretched canvas which provides an intimate fluidity with the paint while allowing an unencumbered physicality to the process. Freedom arises. Change can be scary, but often times, a real gem stems from it. Picasso, Rothko, de Kooning, Helen Frankenthaler, Lee Krasner, Miro, Franz Kline, Warhol, Cy Twombly, Howard Hodgkin, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Ed Ruscha are among her favorite artists. Staci graduated from the prestigious USC School of Cinema-Television and studied abstract painting at The Brentwood Art Center in Santa Monica, California. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband and two sons. www.stacicross.com www.facebook.com/stacicrossartist www.instagram.com/stacicross_art www.twitter.com/StaciCrossArt
