About The Artwork
This painting is a combination of acrylic, metallic and oil paint together with various textural and oxidizing mediums. A hard-edged angular band of pure colors divides the canvas into two large sections. The colors in the upper area suggest an aerial landscape incorporating several discs. The circular elements are a metaphor for transcendent and original perfection. The largest disc was originally silver but the purity of its shape and color has been overlaid with advancing rust and dripping turquoise corrosion. The lower area evokes a terrestrial landscape with overlapping silver discs. These discs contain an amalgam of the ecclesiastical and industrial, the suggested tracery of a medieval rose window combined with industrial cogs and wheels. The rusted elements in the painting have not been fixed and will continue to corrode over time.

Born in Hobart, Tasmania. Lives and works in Canberra, Australia & Vienna, Austria. Art practice encompasses painting, drawing, collage, installation and photography. Recent work is a reinterpretation of the classical theme of man’s fall from grace and banishment from the Garden of Eden in the context of contemporary human intervention in the environment. The paintings are a fusion of abstract elements with Baroque and mythological components from historic sculptures around Europe. They contrast hard-edged geometry with organic shapes, the spiritual with abject elements and vibrant pure color with oxidation and corrosion. Actual rust and various oxidizing mediums have been incorporated into the works and will continue to evolve over the lifetime of the work.
