Fragile Art. Hilda Elisabeth Keyser Painting

My creative pseudonym is Evgeniya Bova. I am an artist from Russia. My project is dedicated to women artists of the past who have achieved success. This work is from the series, which show copies of the hands from the self-portraits of female artists. First of all I am interested in the view of the artists themselves and not in the view of their contemporaries, critics and historians. Therefore, my project is based on self-portraits of artists - their reflection of themselves in their work. By exploring the work of these women, their contribution to art, by remembering them, it is as if I am creating a new connection between us. I accept their experience expressed through pictures. I have based my paintings not on canvas or paper but on ancient plates. Some of the plates were handed down to me from my ancestors, some I bought at flea markets. When I look at them I imagine the hands of generations of women washing them. The plate in this project is a symbol of the "female" in art. As with any work associated with arts and crafts, the painting of ceramics is generally regarded with disdain. Women's painting has long been treated with the same disdain, seen solely as decorative, fun, a distraction from "real" women's affairs. By putting an image of the hands of artists who have achieved recognition, success, and a place in the history of art on the surface of a plate, I change their purpose from utilitarian to aesthetic. I transform the everyday object into an art object, the frivolous into the attention-grabbing, the empty into the meaningful. From 1774 to 1778 she studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in Stockholm. She then continued her studies in Paris with Léon Bonne. In France, Keyser predominantly painted scenes of everyday life in the spirit of naturalism. She also worked in portraiture, self-portraiture and book illustration. The artist exhibited her work many times at the Paris Salon (in 1882, 1883, 1884, 1887, 1888, 1889 and in 1890). One of her pastel portraits was exhibited at the 1889 World's Fair in Paris; another of Keyser's works ("Peasant Woman of Normandy") was shown at the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago. From 1890 to 1896 Keiser directed (together with the artist Ingeborg Westfelt-Eggertz, with whom she became friends in Paris) an art school in Stockholm. One of her students was the Swedish artist Mina Carlson-Bredberg. In 1898 Keiser visited St. Petersburg. Elisabeth Keiser died in Stockholm on December 16, 1898. Her works are in the collections of the National Museum of Sweden, the Gothenburg Art Museum, the Lund University Art Museum and the Bohuslin Museum in Uddevalla. From Wikipedia.
