"The Weight of Scars" is a minimalist meditation on pain, resilience, and healing. The deep black surface acts as a void, absorbing the viewer’s gaze, while subtle cracks—each numbered—represent scars, both physical and emotional. These cracks, symbolizing the enduring wounds we carry, are carefully cataloged, emphasizing their individuality and importance in shaping who we are. A single, highlighted scar, colored in red ochre, draws the eye, symbolizing a particularly transformative or significant wound. The sparing use of color enhances the work’s contemplative tone, inviting viewers to reflect on their own experiences of suffering and growth. This artwork embodies the philosophy that through adversity, we are marked but also defined.

After more than fifteen years, I have returned to painting. This return feels like an internal rebirth, deeply connected to my personal journey. When my child was born, art had to step aside. It was a time when security and stability took precedence over creative freedom. As a goldsmith, I found the stability that allowed me to support my family, but it distanced me from my most personal form of expression – painting. The return to art came suddenly, driven by an inner unrest that had been intensifying in recent years, especially due to relationship turmoil. I realized that my paintings had to be more than just expressions of ideas – they had to become spaces for introspection, for questioning and seeking balance, both within and in relationships. The textures and layers I work with carry the weight of time and experience. Every surface I shape tells its own story about relationships, attachments, limitations, and the process of renewal – what breaks down but also what rebuilds. My choice to embrace abstraction was not accidental. I see it as a way to capture what words cannot express. It’s a space where thoughts and emotions can flow freely, where the viewer can find their own interpretations and inner answers. At the same time, abstraction frees me – it allows me to keep my vulnerable parts hidden in the multiplicity of colors and forms, though I know that in this way, I am revealing the most. My work intertwines relationships – between the visible and the hidden, between the personal and the collective, between the past and the present. Living in a small village in Eastern Europe, in Slovakia, I have learned to perceive silence and emptiness not as voids, but as spaces where deep introspection can ripen. This environment, which might seem isolated, is for me a source of inexhaustible creative strength. As a young artist, I was deeply inspired by Egon Schiele’s work, particularly his ability to convey the depth of human emotions and vulnerability. This fascination stays with me today, though now in a different form – not as literal representation, but as an effort to penetrate beneath the surface, to where the deepest movements of the human heart take place. My works explore the deepest layers of human experience – wounds and their healing, but also the endless search for balance between fragility and strength. In every relationship, in every break and reunion, I seek answers to questions deeply rooted in all of us.
