In my practice I explore the relationship between colors and how they affect one another. I examine how each color appears to the eye, based on its placement on the canvas and its relationship with its surroundings. The colors in my paintings take a life unto their own and take on new shapes and spaces. Right now, I am interested in the concept of a “gradient” and how one color can gradually become another. A magical process which develops before the eyes of the viewer. In my painting process I do not plan anything in advance. I do not paint from sketches or preconceived ideas. I let the colors and the size of the canvas dictate to me what should happen. This approach to painting frees me of rigidity and of worrying what will be. I allow the movement of my body and the painting gestures themselves bring the life and character to each painting. The result many times reminds one of landscape paintings. There is an element of the Romantic movement in my paintings. The element of man who stands before nature and is awed by its beauty and its strength. I am influenced by the post second World War artists in America, such as Mark Rothko, Barnett Newman, Franz Kline, Clyfford Still and Helen Frankenthaler.
