« Free fallin' » is one of Tom Petty’s songs sung by John Mayer. It’s about a break-up. But I think it’s a great metaphor for change in general. And my painting « Free Fall II» is all about that. Free falling is all about the space in between. When one thing ends and another begins. It’s the chapter in between, the transition, that connects the past to the future, but you don’t know-how, yet. It’s challenging when you're confronted with the unknown. It can make you feel uprooted and unsettled. It takes time to find your feet and discover the sense of your new direction. These kinds of changes come in all shapes and sizes. The more agile you are the easier it is to bounce and adapt. Changes can come in the form of a break up like in the song but also the loss of a loved one, losing a job or doing things differently. Surely you can relate to at least one of these kinds of changes? Especially with a pandemic to shake up the norm.
