About The Artwork
I painted Frida Kahlo because she was so passionate about her portrait paintings. I like how she painted in a realistic style but added surrealistic elements to give a window to her dreams. I saw her self portraits up close in Reno and I felt I could almost smell her cigarette breath. I saw her dried up old paints and her paint box and I felt I could hear her voice and a glimmer of her passion. I tried to capture that in this portrait.
