ABOUT THE ARTWORK
In this painting I am continuing the theme of desolation. Although the work is ostensibly about loss, this becomes subordinated to the endeavour with the idea and the materials. The issues that concern me at the start of the work are quickly subsumed in what is happening on the surface of the work. I generally work on a piece until there are no more aesthetic problems to solve within the painting. I do not set out with a rigid fixed goal but rather a notion of where I am going with it and because of this the work is always dynamic, interactive and alive for me.
