About The Artwork

I usually weave a story with historical context into my paintings. I just spent two weeks in Spain visiting cities rich with Roman and Moorish history. So how could this NOT influence my paintings? When Queen Isabella negotiated the reconquest of Southern Spain and took over the Alhambra, the Moors of Granada, like the Jews, were forced to convert or leave. To better enforce this rule, the Moors were ordered to move their courtyard doors, the main doors to their homes, from the more "private" side entrance into their shared family area, to the center of the building. This way, the Queen's Inquisitors could peer directly into the private space to make sure the family was practicing the RIGHT religion. Unstretched canvas. Ships rolled in a tube.

As an intuitive abstract painter, my style embodies an organic, expressive feel that allows viewers to establish a compelling personal connection. Using rich combinations of color and texture, surrealism and reality, and geometric and organic forms, I narrate stories while creating several points of visual interest within each story. My use of mixed media adds texture, infusing my paintings with energy and depth. This multi-dimensional appeal makes my work emotionally poignant. I take a skillful and thoughtful approach to balance and color, and am committed to pushing the boundaries of my creativity while experimenting with techniques that give me a unique artistic voice. Sharon is the creator of several commercially successful home décor lines and is a nationally licensed artist with currently two lines of giftware on the market. She is a self-taught artist, graphic designer and illustrator and is happy to call Atlanta her home since 1992. Please visit my website - link above.
