Painting: Acrylic, Oil on Paper.
One of a series of paintings inspired by reflections of evergreen trees in a small, ice-covered mountain pond I visited several years ago. It was an early spring morning. Sunlight filtered through the trees and began to melt the ice in spots. Mist rose off the water. All was silent.
The vividness of the experience stayed in my memory until finally I had to paint it to get it out of my head. I loved the elemental nature of the subject. The intent was not to literally represent, but use the concept as a starting point for exploring a range of painterly approaches.
This painting is oil over acrylic on very thick, durable gesso-coated paper. Hangs from four grommets at top of work, no frame required.
