ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Fuego en Amazonia is a haunting and evocative portrayal of the Amazon rainforest's destruction, born from a vivid dream during the catastrophic fires that ravaged this vital ecosystem. The canvas is divided into two distinct yet interconnected scenes, each laden with symbolism and emotion. On the right side, birds are depicted in flight, moving towards an unknown destination, their journey abruptly cut off, leaving the viewer to wonder about their fate. Opposite them, on the left, a vibrant, semi-figurative figure represents the soul of the forest. This colorful spirit, gazing with resigned sorrow, watches over the devastation, surrounded by the ethereal, floating souls of birds that have already perished in the flames. This figure embodies the forest's life force, resilient yet deeply scarred by the inferno. The most poignant aspect of the painting is the parallel between the forest's soul and a second face on the right—a cold, expressionless visage representing our consumer society. This face sheds a single tear, but these are false tears, reflecting the superficial grief of a society complicit in the destruction of the planet’s lungs while simultaneously mourning its loss. The juxtaposition of these two faces—one embodying the forest's suffering, the other representing hollow regret—creates a powerful commentary on the role humanity plays in the devastation of the natural world. The use of color is intensely symbolic. The fiery reds and oranges of the flames clash with the deep, somber tones of smoke and ash, while the vibrant colors of the forest's soul contrast sharply with the cold, grey hues of the consumerist face. This dynamic interplay of colors and forms emphasizes the destructive power of the fire and the conflicting emotions surrounding it.
