Cody Naganuma is a mixed-media artist born in Honolulu, HI in 1986. He received his B.F.A. in Painting from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and currently lives and works in South San Francisco, CA. Naganuma is primarily influenced by stylistic elements in minimalism, abstract expressionism, op art, and vernacular architecture. He build his works through layers of drawing, painting, scraping, and burning on a variety of substrates, including paper, fabric, and various construction materials. Stemming from a personal narrative, his work engages facets of nostalgia, liminality, ambiguity, and the evasive American dream.
