Painting: Ink, japanese ink, sumi on Paper.
Sumi painting of the Buddhist Goddess of compassion and loving kindness Avalokiteshvara, called Kannon or Kwannon in Japanese, Guanyin in Chinese.
Kannon has both a male and female identity. I have depicted Kannon in her female form, sitting on a rock, in the wilderness, with a bright full moon. With these pictorial elements I wanted to create a scenery that evokes true freedom, unimpeded compassionate activity and clarity.
The cursive Japanese calligraphy depicts a phrase from the twenty-fifth chapter of the Lotus Sutra:
Kannon observes all sentient beings with eyes of compassion; an immeasurable sea of blessings .
Size of the calligraphy in cm: 42 x 30 x 0.2 cm.
