ABOUT THE ARTWORK

‘Fushimi Inari Taisha’ original acrylic and ink painting on cut paper. Presented in a 25 x 25cm black box frame. There are three distinct layers lifted from a dark background, creating an interesting theatrical effect as each raised shape cast a shadow on the illustration below. Fushimi Inari Taisha (伏見稲荷大社) is an important Shinto shrine in southern Kyoto. Famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates, which straddle a network of trails leading into the wooded forest of the sacred Mount Inari. This painting is packed in a cardboard box, protected inside with tissue paper, eco bubble wrap and void filling brown paper.

Jonathan is a professional artist and illustrator working with big colours and lots of detail. "I find new compositions through travelling and exploring, visiting popular places around the UK, Europe and beyond. I try to bring a fresh perspective and a bold palette of colour to the landmarks you already know... and perhaps introduce you to a few to new locations along the way."
