I begin a painting and then I end it. I push it and pull it. Painting is a rollercoaster. Some rides are gentler than others. Paint goes down, and then more, until I have something to start. And then it begins. It is like landing on a field. In an organic manner, I respond to what is in front of me. It can be a wonderful meditation in between the rollercoaster moments. I have no plan. I am influenced by ideas, people and places. I am a visual sponge, eyes-wide-open – everywhere. From oil in a gutter to last light on a castle. This painting is part of the Leap series. My process is the same for all works. I push and pull until I am finished, always striving for another breakthrough. Enter – Gaze (Leap 17) Commission More consideration was given to this, as I kept in mind the reference paintings that came before including the Silk Road paintings. What transpired is a beautiful blend of elements from Silk Road (which are in my current paintings as well) and the Leap Series, of which this is one. The resulting painting is a symbiotic relationship of calm and energy. Likewise the sombre reds contrast the aqua and vibrant reds, creating a sense of peacefulness and joy. There is a sense that many aspects of natural beauty are within, without being defined or obvious – Gaze. .. Most of the painting was painted to the music of Yann Tiersen and also Piano Study, which I listen to with my headphones.... a LOT on Spotify.

Art and Design are part insight, part inspiration, and a lot – of invention. In my studio, accidents happen, and that moves my work forward. It is always exciting to watch work take on a life of its own. I begin with the end in mind, and always land in a different place. I work hard to develop original works – avoiding trends and following the direction of the work – in the moment. My colourful works reflect my love of colour, and design. Works are held in private and public collections worldwide.
