This is a piece of eco-art. To create this work art, I used renewable resources. A well loved cupboard door served me as canvas. I used beautiful small pieces of real bark from a dead tree I found in the forest. What is most important, this nature friendly painting carries a powerful message: We ...

A psychiatrist by training, Sonia is a self-taught artist born in Peru who now lives in Ontario, Canada, where she enjoys a fulfilling retirement devoted to painting.
Many years ago, I felt an irresistible need to paint. An inner force compelled me to pick up a brush and pour my emotions onto canvas and paper. From that moment on, I devoted every spare hour to exploring this newly discovered passion.
My artistic journey began with watercolours, followed by oils, and eventually acrylics, which have become my preferred medium. Along the way, I found inspiration in portraiture, the human figure, and landscapes.
More recently, I discovered abstract painting, and it has completely transformed my artistic path. Since then, I have immersed myself in its magical world—a world of vibrant colour, boundless imagination, and endless possibilities. Abstract art fascinates me because it seems to guard its own mysterious language, revealing its secrets only through exploration and experience.
For me, abstract painting is both demanding and deeply rewarding. Every canvas presents a new challenge, yet each one brings a profound sense of joy and fulfillment. More importantly, the creative process allows me to reconnect with the universe and with my own existence.
My work reflects an enduring love of colour. I believe colour is the soul of a painting. Through bold contrasts and harmonious relationships, colours evoke the complex emotions that shape the human experience—hope and uncertainty, serenity and turmoil, joy and melancholy. My goal is not to reproduce reality but to create a visual dialogue that invites viewers to interpret, feel, and discover their own meaning within each piece.
My paintings are held in private collections in Canada, Peru, the United States, Poland, Brazil, Russia, Spain, Ecuador, and India. Knowing that my work resonates with people across cultures is both an honor and an inspiration to continue creating.
