Once a house painter and carpenter, Nick Mancillas revels in the act of taking common Home Depot type materials intended for mundane, everyday purposes and transforming them through his own artistic alchemy. Ranging from politics, portraiture, and the human figure his work emphasizes the process of creation leaving rich multi-layered surfaces. Since graduating from the art institute in Boston he has completed the Cardboard Currency Series and is now working on a new project involving the human figure.
