Mike Carter Johnson, a native of 5th Ward Houston, Texas USA, now living a couple blocks from Galveston Bay. First business was painting murals on interior walls of various businesses, beautifying Pediatrician offices, law offices, daycares and kids' rooms. Graduate of The Art Institute of Houston in 2006 with degree in Digital Design/Multimedia. Started my design company, creating print and digital media for various companies, small to medium size. I received my master's in criminal justice looking to know the system then teach Graphic Design inside prisons to inmates however, I ended up teaching Digital Media, Animation and Computer Science to high students. I left teaching but remained in education, filling roles as a Teacher Counselor, student counselor at NASA, a student advisor at a flight academy. Missing painting on canvas, I got back into acrylic painting. I enjoy being in and around water, islands, beaches, lakes, etc. So, I started painting island and beach scenes. Recently, I felt a calling to include in my paintings, my love for Island/beach, NASA/Space, and Houston Urban slab culture. I've started combining into one painting: beach/island scenes, NASA/Space, and Houston Slab Car urban culture. In my paintings you may find astronauts performing everyday events (i.e. fishing, driving car) while sporting a space suit. I often use bold, bright colors and often add texture. I hope my paintings make the viewer smile even laugh at some of the quirky scenes.
