About The Artwork

Go!Go!Go! Dancin’ up on the bar! , 1999 Acrylic ink on acid free Faber-Castell watercolor paper 180gm. 10.3 x 13.3 in, 26.3 x 33.8 cm Action caricature and portrait. Based on a pencil sketch of the same (where has that sketch gone to…). Pencil sketch done on location, inside the clubs, surrounded by jostling crowds and working in dim light. The people were not really posing, just being themselves. The many sketches, and a few pieces done in ink such as this one, form a series all done between 1999 and 2000 in various nightclubs in Singapore. Many of the sketches were bought up by the until then unsuspecting clubber! Close up picture shows the brush work. And that’s a rare photo of me back then sketching in a busy club. Interested to have your idea painted in this style? Maybe a storyboard collage from a recent travel, your home or fave building? Contact me.

I'm Canadian born now residing in Malaysia. I've been working professionally as an artist since 1980 ish… time flies. I have exhibited my paintings in Vancouver and coastal B.C., Bangkok, Singapore & Malaysia, areas I’ve lived in over time. Now I do it all online. I’ve traveled extensively over the years and you’ll see that people, places and cultures are a recurring theme in my art. I attach importance to papers I use for my paintings. Some are done on acid free watercolour papers, from 180lb weight to 300lb. I also use handmade parchment type papers. These are thick yet pliable, strong, with deckled edge that add to the look of my paintings. I’m still a passionate guy. I’m passionate about life and people, passionate about art and painting. And I feel really at my best when I’m putting all these things down on paper. I only wish I had more time to delve into all these activities of mine. But I work with what I have. My health sucks so I’m slowing down. And there's more: book illustration, portrait, comic strip, caricature. I also work with camera and computer, to create the images brush strokes just can't deliver. So follow my brush work and hopefully you’ll find that special painting meant just for you.
