Inspired by my love for jewelry and the exotic beauty of South Asian women. I wanted to capture the elegance of traditional South Asian Jewelry in a style that was both realistic but at the same time had a pop art look to it. The painting is done in acrylic and coated with UV protective varnish, hanging loop fixed to the back.

Khaula Mazhar was born in Ontario, Canada to Indian-Pakistani immigrants, whose loyalty to science and medicine is a common trait among people from the Sub-Continent.Thus they smiled patiently and reminded her gently, as her artistic skills continued to stubbornly develop, that she was destined to become a brain surgeon. However, the world of brain surgeons would remain at a loss as she went on to complete her MSc in Biochemistry and then enter the world of teaching instead. In her years of teaching Khaula continued to be involved in art projects on behalf of the school and helped create a pair of large-scale murals that were publicly exhibited in Karachi (Pakistan) as part of Karavan Karachi’s heritage project. On moving back to Canada she has exhibited her work both in Canada and abroad and her work has received special merit and recognition in juried shows. Her exhibition on women’s issues in October 2016 received a certificate of appreciation from MP Iqra Khalid as did her calligraphic work exhibited at the Legislative building in Queen’s Park (from MPP Andrea Horwath). A thalassophile by nature , Khaula especially loves to be at the beach and just watch the waves. The colors and the movement of the water are inspiring as well as therapeutic. She loves to paint water whether calm and still, stormy and wild, or just embellishing a window on a rainy day. She has recently started paint sessions aimed at getting everyone to experience the freedom and fun a simple paint brush can bring and why art really is good for you. A portion of the proceeds goes to a charitable cause and Khaula regularly donates her paintings for charity auctions as well.
