Greyfriars Kirk is situated in the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town and is steeped in history from the kirk itself to the graveyard. It is the first church to be built in Edinburgh following the Scottish reformation in 1560. Burials have been taking place (and grave robberies too) since the late 16th century, and a number of notable Edinburgh residents are interred at Greyfriars. The Kirkyard and its monuments are protected as a category A listed building. It has achieved global notoriety through the supposed inspiration JK Rowling received when conceiving the characters in the Harry Potter series of novels. It's also where the beloved Greyfriars Bobby is buried. Not to mention it's notoriety for being the most haunted. I wanted to create a sense of what is beyond the gate and used tonal coloursI feel conveys a sense of age and history and the gloomy mood creates a dark feeling. The original artwork is initialled on the front and signed, titled and dated with the year on the back.

PRINTS AVAILABLE ON ALL ARTWORKS - CLICK ON ARTWORK THEN THE PRINT TAB. Angela has a unique blend of talents as an artist, stylist and designer. She originally studied Fashion Design at Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design, graduating in 1990, having chosen it over painting as the ‘safer’ career option and an obsession for fashion. Whilst working as a designer, she discovered that her passion lay in creating the finished look and so a successful career in styling began, working with leading photographers and production companies, for over twenty years, shooting advertising campaigns for major international brands. Seven years ago, as a progression from working on shoots and filming, Angela saw an opportunity to create a business, called Paterior Design, designing outdoor living spaces for homeowners. Angela’s original passion for painting was reignited a few years ago when she began painting landscapes for family presents, and was delighted to start receiving commissions thereafter. Initially her work was commission based only, producing nostalgic paintings of clients’ favourite and memorable places until she was given the opportunity to display her paintings on the walls of the Southern Cross, in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town. It is a favourite haunt for visitors to the city, and inspired her to paint much loved sights of her hometown. Even as a young artist, Angela considered herself a realist and impressionist painter, and is inspired by the French Impressionists and British artists: John Constable, Edward Seago, Ken Howard, and Kieron Williamson. Her particular love is capturing reflections on water and sunlight on the landscape, aiming to immerse the viewer in the mood and feel of the subject. Angela continues to enjoy commissions and developing her portfolio of paintings of Edinburgh, and other favourite sights around the world.
