Imagine a wall! Worn and torn by what it or the owner has experienced over time. Filled with signs, letters, notes, text, spots. Painting for me is a communication process between me and paint on canvas. Sometimes a struggle, often exciting and at it's best surprising. I work with many layers of paint, always starting with at least four layers of white paint before using colours in many additional layers to create a fine texture and a surface important for the feeling of nerve and sensitivity that I strive to express. Something with a "story". But painting for me is not only putting or adding paint on canvas. It actually often is about removing paint! - going partly backwards in the opposite direction to create a worn impression. I also scrape the surface. My life, dramas in my family history inspired this painting. This painting is made of acrylic on canvas. It will be shipped rolled. If a buyer wishes the strechers could be enclosed. It will be thoroughly market on the back in order to make re-streching easy. A frame is not necessary since the rim is painted as well. Without a frame is my advice. .

Bodil Hedlund was born 1946 in Östersund, Sweden and now lives and works in Stockholm and 3 months in Cape Town. She has participated in a large number of exhibitions; not only in Sweden but also abroad (Europe, Chile, South Africa) - among them some 90 solo exhibitions. She is represented in private collections in Europe and South Africa, museums, The Swedish Royal Family collection and The South African Government. The paintings of Bodil Hedlund give the impression to resurge from a long, inner journey, from distant bits of life, special to the artist herself, but at the same time shared by all of us. Her language seems to have been developed from an existential experience. With paint on canvas, layer upon layer and with several techniques she tells us about human experiences like loneliness, openness, longing and vulnerability. But also courage. Her palette is subtle, low key and restrained – often in a richly varied grey tone. Or from a review “This is art where “small” is still spelled ”beautiful” and where extreme simplicity could have monumental qualities and offer immense beauty”.
