This painting, available through Foolproof Contemporary Art Gallery in Denver, shows Canadian downhill ski racer Ken Read streaking down an alpine race course in 1975. Ken Read was the first non-European to win both the Austrian downhill Hahnenkamm at Kitzbühel, and the Swiss race Lauberhorn at Wengen. I was struck by an old photo and had to try painting this image. His all-red race suit is such a striking contrast with the snowy background. I hope viewers will remember his incredible speed, poise and athleticism.
