About The Artwork

Oil on canvas, 50cm on 60cm, signed in the bottom. This painting represents a mix of vintage and modern where the ideas and the fashion of yesterday still makes sense today and its meaning grows even stronger. The ongoing battle for women’s rights around the world is the inspiration for this painting. The hair of the woman are styled in victory rolls and she is driving a car, but her hair isn’t blowing free in the wind yet as she has a long way through the bubble gum fields where she could get stuck at any time. I like a simple, effective, straight to the point approach to my paintings, with clear lines and bright colors. I paint in a realistic way with a touch of graphic novels style. The subject is usually women, nature and wildlife. I combine different images to create a unique vision of a thought, event or feeling. I paint mostly using oil on canvas for its versatility. It allows me to create bright images that pop out and at the same time gives room for softness and drama. My paintings begin with a conversation with someone, something I saw in the street or online, a book or article I read or a TV show I watched …

Born in Saint-Petersburg, Russia, and raised in Brussels, Belgium, since her teens, Julia Tulub has a passion for arts, science and the world. Mostly self-taught, she refined her knowledge of oil painting and drawing at an artist’s private studio. After years of experimenting, she settled on the simplicity of graphite pencils and the versatility of oil paintings, while regularly trying other mediums for fun. Her favourite subjects are women, nature and wildlife.
