About The Artwork

Inside the packaging will be included a printed sheet containing the narrative related to this canvas. That's the story behind "Happy" painting: Bali - May 1986 “I didn't think there was a place where we could be so light, so calm, so serene. I could not escape the synthesis of a hymn to lightness and harmony, to happiness! Rare periods, perhaps too much, but for this reason also so precious. Good food, crystal clear beaches, crisp palms, coconuts, lush fruit, carefree hammocks, and more, blue and fuchsia umbrellas, sensual warmth, smiles, delightful folklore, bliss, festive nature. Those periods where you live with your head upside down, you know, when you have no thoughts and your gaze travels above the horizon and discovers skies, terraces, trees, and so, other unknown knowns. If you want to meet me in this corner of paradise, you know, I'll wait for you!”

Gioacchino Saltagrillo Gambatesa is an italian painter living around the world. The key to read the work of this artist is to pair his painting along with his diary. Every painting belong to a story and every story belong to a place he visited around the world in the past years. I suggest you to read every artwork description to fully enjoy his vibrant canvases. Going down to the nitty gritty...I met Gioacchino on a cool afternoon in the autumn of 1983. Walking along the pavement I met this boy, in his early twenties, with his hands in his pockets staring at the sky. I walked up to him and ironically asked him: "Anything new up there?" He carried on looking at the sky and very seriously said "I already know this light and these colours perfectly, now this is what I call home", then he looked at me straight in the face and said "It's time I dedicate myself somewhere else, don't you think? "  I nodded.   From that day on we became great friends and in these past years we have shared our good and bad times, our travels, our passions and although it pains me to say this, sometimes even our loves.  What I can say about Gioacchino is that he has always been, socially speaking, on the wild side..little inclined to social conventions, to the compromise of being a citizen and having a homeland.  From an early age he used painting as a means of communication and travel as a bridge between his artistic research and his philosophy of life.  I could tell you about the thousand ordeals of Gioacchino Saltagrillo Gambatesa, but I let his art do the talking. I hope that, as was the case for me, by looking at his works and reading his writings, you are able to lose yourself in those remote landscapes and escape far away from this hectic life, even if only for a few minutes.
