This work was inspired by a minimal approach to doing an ink and watercolor face of a young hip girl. Sometimes simple is better. I hope the viewer likes the simplistic nature of this abstract portrait of the "Hat Girl"

Contact us.Mitch Nye’s artistic journey is defined by his passion for art. He discovered his love for drawing and painting around the age of ten.
During his school years, Nye explored various artistic paths; however, he always leaned toward drawing and painting. Due to his uncertainty about the practicality of a fine art career, he put aside his brushes and spent the next forty years working in the corporate world, considering art mainly as a cherished hobby of his youth. Although, art was always in the back of his mind.
Only after retiring did Mitch return to his artistic passion. Visits to museums and galleries rekindled his creativity. He not only draws inspiration from moments within his imagination, but also from captivating images and the unexpected found in daily life.
Nye’s creative process usually starts with a sketch and is refined until the idea feels complete. Then it moves to canvas or art paper. Each work carries an imprint shaped by his thoughts and perspectives. He enjoys the challenge provided by working on meticulous, detailed watercolor and ink paintings, as a change of pace from his abstractions.
Mitch has built his following, mainly through social media. His works presently hang in fifteen U.S. states and five countries, a recognition he values more than a formal award.
Outside the studio, Mitch enjoys reading and traveling with his wife; his high school sweetheart and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Nye believes strongly in the social value of creativity, arguing that society suffers when art is absent. For him, each painting is more than personal expression; it is part of a broader effort to enrich and bring joy.
