Hay bales come in all sorts of shapes and sizes and provide visual interest at harvest time in the Fens. Apart from my intention to create a harmonious arrangement of colours and shapes in my paintings, I also hope they serve as a documentary record of the landscape and features of the farming region of the UK where I live.

In this painting I used Golden and W&N acrylic paints. I finished it off with two coats of Golden Satin Acrylic Varnish which not only protects it from damage from the atmosphere and UV light but also gives it a slight sheen. It is framed with a simple but stylish wood tray frame which has been hand-painted pale grey. The dimensions stated include the frame.

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Hay bales come in all sorts of shapes and sizes and provide visual interest at harvest time in the Fens. Apart from my intention to create a harmonious arrangement of colours and shapes in my paintings, I also hope they serve as a documentary record of the landscape and features of the farming region of the UK where I live. In this painting I used Golden and W&N acrylic paints. I finished it off with two coats of Golden Satin Acrylic Varnish which not only protects it from damage from the atmosphere and UV light but also gives it a slight sheen. Katrina is primarily, though not exclusively, a landscape painter and the Fenland landscape around her home provides a continuous source of subjects. Creating strong compositions and harmonious colour relationships are her main concerns when painting. She builds up the image in layers, continually making adjustments until these objectives have been achieved. This process results in an interesting surface texture which is an integral part of the work. She sees the final painting as a distillation of her response to the subject. After gaining a BA in Fine Art (Painting) from the Central School of Art, London, Katrina used her art skills in many different ways to earn a living. She was employed by a specialist decorating company for several years which included painting murals and decorative finishes on walls and furniture. She also worked as a freelance illustrator with clients in both publishing and advertising. A few years ago, she self-published a children's book that she both wrote and illustrated. In recent years, she has had more time to devote to painting and regularly exhibits her work in Cambridgeshire and London. She has paintings in collections in the UK and abroad.
