Akintomide Akinshola (b.1995) is a contemporary Visual Artist from a long line of crop farmers in the ancient city of Ondo, Ondo State Nigeria, he currently lives and work in Lagos state, Nigeria. Akintomide had strong interest in art at a very tender age which made him explore his ideas through the use of domestic materials while growing up. His passion for art grew and made him earned his bachelor degree in Fine and Applied Art Education at Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-ife, (ACE Ondo chapter) Osun State, Nigeria. Akintomide artistic practice delves into the complexities and beauty of human relationships, exploring the intricate patterns of connections that bind us together. He experiments with various media but currently uses pen, marker and acrylic on canvas creating captivating figures primarily focusing on portraits and Figuration. Drawing inspiration from his environment, cultural background, family history and personal experiences. Akintomide captures relatable intimate scenes that seeks to capture the essence of shared human experience, creating spaces for reflection, contemplation, and connection, inviting viewers to ponder the ways in which relationships form, evolve, and transform us by celebrating the fragility and flexibility of human bonds. His art acknowledges the power of companionship to heal, support, and inspire. He strive to craft a visual language that resonates with the depth and diversity of human emotion, promoting a sense of community and understanding among his audiences His figures mostly possesses exaggerated Noses, prompted by years spent being taunted by bullies while growing up. Akintomide with his unique approach and technique also tries to re-unify non-African fabrics and African fabrics exploring its historical journey, cultural significance and its influences. Through his art, Akintomide explores these themes, providing a unique insight into the African experiences.
