Hello, Kitty... Painting

I began to paint when I was a very small child. As long as I can remember, a paint brush has been in my hand and a canvas has been my companion, ready to hear me whenever I had something to say. It is this concept, this idea of starting at the beginning that has defined my current collection. My work by its nature has been a continuum from a very early age, and therefore offers access to and explores continuity, aging, and a loss of innocence, while maintaining childhood as a lighthouse and focal point. One of my favorite aspects of painting with oil is the ability to express a history through brush strokes. For me, painting is a very emotional, meditative, and cleansing process- my work is not just an expression of my ideas and thoughts, it's also a history of how I move through my thinking, how my conclusions and emotions change as I paint. In this way my process inherently involves change and revision, and the texture of my work is a testament to the emotional texture that makes up our lives, and makes them beautiful. Even as my current collection includes images that sparsely populate the canvas, the layered brush strokes, paint mixed directly on the canvas and rich texture make my work dynamic and alive. For most of us, aging and entering adulthood do not always represent a personal growth, but rather a shift. Youthful creativity is exchanged for rigor and discipline. Playfulness is exchanged for a sense of duty. My work attempts to bridge a temporal gap- to exist in your past, your present, and your future simultaneously. To reflect without criticism, and ultimately, to balance.
