ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This is one work from a series composed of appropriated pages and images from kitschy regional cookbooks. These works are made through adhering the selected image to a readymade proxy-surface of woven PVC. This proxy surface has a layer of acrylic, silkscreen, spray paint, and enamels carefully and intentionally laid over one another. The bond between the final work and the proxy-surface is then violently broken, and imperfect, but the photographic copy of the proxy surface and the stratified layers of work comprising this molded negative remain on the final work, intentionally randomly composing an image merging both photographic spaces. This piece is fully framed (size 13" x 17") in a white enameled frame and plexiglass cover.
