ABOUT THE ARTWORK

HORSE POWER I am highly inspired by a powerful yet graceful movement of a horse and sculptural like body statue. This spirited, magnificent animal is moving fast and confident like a current of wind, so naturally it matches the energy of watercolor brush stroke. To paint a horse is a meditation for me. Only a celebration of equine movement and a brush stoke is left. As in Japanese painting with in ink technique sumi-e by which I am highly influenced by. I am methodically studying the anatomy, structure and movement range of an equines so I could paint a horse figure completely out of my imagination alone. For me horses represents the very best what nature and civilization could create together. Natural forces together with years of careful selection created one of the most beautiful and proud creature - a horse. It's a triumph of collaboration between human and nature. Horses holds both wildness and domestic qualities and reminds me of human longing for reconnect with nature. Mild in wild.

I am a painter passionate about the subtle expressiveness and translucent deepness of watercolors. As a person with architectural background I am fascinated by the structure, dimension and the lightning of an objects I am surrounded with. I am looking for extraordinary in the ordinary by emphasizing movement, tone values, natural paint flow and brush strokes itself. For me painting is a form of meditation and a way to keep myself balanced. I have chosen watercolor as my main medium because it is full of oppositions and it helps me to show the contrasts of existence: powerful inner drama, will to resist, to change together with a fragile hidden balance what is hard to find in a complex world. I am highly influenced by Sumi-e, Japanese painting with ink technique, and its philosophy. I love simplicity and the strength of black and white strokes. I am looking at this kind of visual expression like it is a silent vocabulary that hopefully could speak through a limit of words. Watercolor doesn’t let a mistake to be made and it seems to have a mind of its own. As an artist I try to collaborate with that wild element of the watercolors and it teaches me to found comfort in the unknown. Watercolor is my best colleague whom I make a continues dialogue with. Born and raised in a small Lithuanian town called Prienai, currently I am living and creating in Vilnius, the capital city. I started to attend art school at 5 (one year before I started primary school) and later got my high education as an architect in Vilnius Academy of Arts.
