This painting came about after seeing the devastated landscapes from the bushfires in Australia around six months ago. Death, destruction, scorched earth. It was awful. Like some planet where no life exists.

In Norse mythology, Huginn and Muninn are a pair of ravens that fly all over the world, and bring information to the god Odin. In short, the two ravens represent thought, memory and emotion.

In this case, the land has been so badly damaged that Huginn and Muninn may not be able to return to Odin. Instead of soaring up in the sky, they are on the ground scavenging, but nothing remains.
