I don't think that I will ever stop evolving as an artist. I will always appreciate my experimental phases as my voice unfolds time and time again. I have come to realize that this process of learning and discovery is what fuels my artistic practice. Interpretation is what motivates my work. Whenever I am told that my art has inspired someone or that they have deciphered a unique and personal meaning behind a certain piece, I feel a great sense of accomplishment. While all art has some level of interpretability--I strive to create the type of work that suggests and provokes many possible interpretations that stimulates one's imaginative mind. This has led my work into a more abstract and non-objective direction. I am infatuated with the paintings of the Quebec based movement, Les Automatistes, namely Paul-Émile Borduas and Jean-Paul Riopelle, for their ability to provoke creative interpretation. I am profoundly influenced by both the aesthetic and psychological sentiment of that movement. When I paint, I feel an immense amount of energy. I constantly move around my easel, using lots of gesture and various mark-making techniques. Once I have established an energy, I refine my piece by adding and removing small and careful details until I feel that I have achieved compositional balance.
