ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The Charging Bull bronze sculpture symbolizes a very strong aggressive financial market full of optimism and prosperity. The Charging Bull is a popular tourist destination that draws thousands of people a day, symbolizing Wall Street and the Financial District, they love to clamor around the Bull for souvenir photos. I always told my guests as a Tour guide that you need to rub his balls for good luck. The sculpture was created by Sicilian artist Arturo Di Modica in the wake of the 1987 Black Monday stock market crash. On December 14, 1989, Di Modica arrived on Wall Street with Charging Bull on the back of a truck and illegally dropped the sculpture outside of the New York Stock Exchange. then the Bull was permanently moved to Bowling Green so when you ride down Broadway on the Grayline or Big Bus Tour buses you see the Bull with the Bowling Green park behind him, Battery Park on the right, and directly behind Bowling Green Park is the former Alexander Hamilton Customs House.
