The first painting from this collection “Lust” was born at a moment when I was faced with my own feelings and fantasies which were hidden under a layer of limitations of my usual identity. I was afraid to experience new facets of sexuality, jealousy, lust, the desire of power and aggression as these are socially frowned upon feelings. But as you know, we cannot just sweep such things under the rug. Working in a studio space that is free from judgment, I can give an outlet to the unconscious on the canvas. Thanks to this, I was able to explore and observe these desires more closely and see their transformation on my other works. In my last work of this series, “I’m a saint”, I have come to a certain point of order. In the process of creating this collection, by the legitimization of absolutely any feelings, I managed to reassemble the harmony that is found in chaos. Not just letting this experience be, but giving each piece a separate place in the space of my consciousness. By giving up the idea of such a thing as erroneous or wrong feelings, we gain freedom. We can either observe them or dive deep into them and, as a result, discover new facets of our own identity and achieve peace and harmony.

Maria Tarver is an interdisciplinary artist who explores psychology through visual images in art and art through deep introspective psychological practice. Maria studied psychology for more than 11 years, received a degree in clinical psychology and still has a private practice today. Art for her acts as both a mouthpiece and a method of exploring one's own personality, as it visualizes our unconscious processes. In search of harmony and balance in her work, Maria uses clean and clear forms, lines that are comfortable for the eye and with no additional visual noise, and experiments with the density of layers. Along with working with space, small color points play a central role. Maria sees these color points as the essence of personality, with the uniqueness of each person laid out, enticing you to peer into it. So there is no point in creating a loud visual noise.
