ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Probably my favourite piece from 2018. Milan, June 30, 2018 - only fools and Englishmen were out in the midday sun on this day and I was one of them! It was 36° in the shade and the tarmac was melting. I went to Largo Cairoli (a central square) on this particular day for a purpose. I wanted to get a decent shot of the image I had driven past the previous evening! A black and white version of the resulting photograph, including Armani's colossal billboard, has been printed onto canvas and used as a backdrop to this painting of marathon runners in the Stramilano marathon. I love the way the old town opens up to accept the ultra modern image of fashion and the physical fitness challenges of today's culture and some areas have been left black/white to accentuate this. Definitely a statement piece for any wall. The painting continues around the borders and a dog tooth brass hook has been added to the back for immediate hanging.

I have recently moved back to the UK after living in Italy for almost all my adult life. The Mediterranean lifestyle features greatly in my work and I hope it continues to do so. Check out my latest slideshow on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XKGOFS3ao0&feature=youtu.be Rosalind Roberts is a full-time English artist, living and working in Milan, Italy. My art is all about people and how they relate to their environment. In the sunshine or in the shade. Even when no figure can be seen in a painting, the human being with all his/her moods and eccentricities, fragility and strength, is still very present. Where would we be without other people? Interacting with others is a necessity and I find myself drawn to depicting this interaction. Being an artist for me means being on a never-ending learning curve. You can never put the brush down and say, “Right, I’ve mastered it”. You have to continually strive to improve and refine your technique. Sometimes it can be very frustrating and then one day, click, you’ve moved along the curve a little bit more and the sun is shining down on you. Thanks to Saatchiart and the Internet, I now have collectors all over the world, some of whom I am in contact with on a regular basis. It gives me enormous pleasure to think of my creations hanging on walls all over the world and to thank my collectors, I always enclose a surprise gift in their package.
