A particular of the word "buster" near Garden City and Holcomb.
These are the pages from Barack Obama's book where he talks about the episode in Indonesia, that inspired the map.
This is a recent exhibition of my maps in Washington DC, at the Delegation of the European Union.

About The Artwork

HERE IS A MAP OF KANSAS IN HONOR TO ANN DUNHAM, THE MOTHER OF PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA. And in a larger sense, in honor to motherhood and education in general. Ann Dunham, and her parents, raised the child with ambition and the tools to be successful, in spite of the many difficulties. And the first tool is the language, the word. I painted on the map of Kansas, the State where Ann Dunham was from, with a phrase from the book “Dreams of My Father” written by Obama himself. When he was a boy, his mother would wake him up at 4:00 to tutor him for a few hours before he went off to school. When young Barry complained about getting up so early, his mother responded: “This is no picnic for me either, Buster.” The phrase was also used in an ad during Obama's 2008 presidential campaign.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

My latest endeavour: I paint on maps. First I put on them several layers of varnish, to make them heavy, textured, then I paint a text that comes in my mind, regarding the experience of human kind on that particular piece of earth. Through my maps I want to study the relationship between the names of people, facts, memories (both individual and collective) and the land and its representation. In response to every word, every symbol we perceive, the impressions we each have vary. And, most of all, I want to express my unconditional love for the United States of America. Every map is a unique work, on which I have spent many hours, both for the varnish and for the paint. In these hours I have concentrated myself on the territory and I was in touch with the people described by the map itself.
