Best-in-Show winner of 2017 Yorkfest adult juried exhibition. This work was inspired by the paintings of the visionary abbess Hildegard von Bingen as well as the intense blues, frequently ornate beauty, and spiritual iconography of medieval illuminated manuscripts. Having researched period manuscript pages, I found that references to dragons did exist besides those associated with Saint George. In this particular work, I intend to reveal a gentle connection between the visionary abbess (whose colorless eyes indicate her spiritual insight) and the dragon, who extends a talon into her outstretched hand.
