ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Currently not available for sale - on exhibition. Inspired by a painting by Mariano Salvador Maella - a sketch for an altar painting, which is in the Prado collection (Spanish Baroque). I loved the colors and composition, but wanted to put a contemporary twist on it - almost abstract with plenty of movement. When seen from a distance it has the look of a classic religious painting, but up close it's a mass of loose brushstrokes.

Taking a lot of inspiration from old masters, particularly from the Rococo/Baroque era, I'm especially drawn to the composition, colors & fabrics and like to put my contemporary twist on it. Painting in a very expressive way, abstract elements are explored in these figurative subjects and the spaces in between. Using a variety of media such as acrylic, charcoal, plaster & pastel I'm constantly experimenting with textures & layers to convey flow & movement. Throughout my artistic career I've exhibited widely across the United States, UK & Europe in both group and solo shows, as well as having work regularly published.
