About The Artwork

A long shadow near Mount Sipylus, Turkey looms by the edge of a watery expanse as two other figures take off on leafy carpets. A mournful looking cliff face bathed in moonlight is that of Niobe, the mythical daughter of the prideful Tantalus. As punishment, all of Niobe's children have been slaughtered and she has turned to stone and weeps for them forever. As do I, for my two estranged adult daughters who have cast me aside and condemned me for being a human being. Art is the refuge where I can express this sorrow. This is a story about the wish to take off and fly off to a better place.
