Doha-based artist Noor Abuissa's work stems from but does not imitate Islamic Design. She is inspired by the balance achieved through symmetry in this Geometric Abstract form of Art. She appreciates a more open interpretation of Islamic Design by incorporating a Spiritual form of Abstract Geometric Art. Her intention is to produce work that gives the viewer a sense of calm and joy, similar to the feeling she experiences upon entering a mosque ornate with Islamic motif. This feeling that is produced through intuition is what she considers to relate to spirituality. However, she recognizes that feelings are challenging to translate to an audience, especially one from a different cultural background to her own. This challenge is what allows her to explore Abstract Geometric Art and incorporate its ideas in her developing practice.
