ENGLISH

Christine Cougoule is a French visual artist based in Uzès whose practice explores the impermanence of perception, as well as processes of appearance, fading and transformation.

Through painting, handmade paper and plant fibres, as well as indigo and textile, she explores what emerges and recedes, and what remains in the gaze when a form seems to disappear.

Material, light, water, air and gesture all contribute to this research. Her works do not seek to depict landscape, but rather to evoke its essential presence: a line, a mass, a transparency, a trace.

This approach finds a particular expression in her recent paper practice, notably in the Utsuroi series, where matter itself becomes a space of passage and transformation.
