About The Artwork

She made broken look beautiful and strong look invincible. But inside, she felt invincible to the world. Just another object in a world of things. She wore the universe on her shoulders and made it look like a pair of wings. Available: inquire at info@elisavalentistudio.com ⠀⠀

Elisa Rosa Valenti, whose brand is Elisa Valenti Studio, was a pharmacist for thirteen years, and is now a contemporary, figurative artist based in New York. Her figures demonstrate bodies reminiscent of a classical era. She marries her extensive knowledge and love of dermatology, skin texture, color, shape and form and her profound understanding of anatomy. Her work evokes a very personal interpretation of beauty, strength, and vulnerability. Through a combination of drawing or painting from models and staged photographs, her full-figured women come to life on the canvas. The varying flesh tones used in her signature variation on cubism make each figure seem as if it could be any woman and indeed many of her viewers see themselves in her work. She describes having grown up “in a time before being plus size was normal” and how that had a profound effect on her. So many people can relate to the idea of never having seen someone who looks like them in pop culture or mainstream media and the feelings of self-doubt or otherness that are often associated with it. She paints what she wishes she had seen back then, depicting women in ordinary scenes of life. The goal in her work is to empower the viewer to feel a sense of confidence and provoke a sense of beauty in images we are not accustomed to seeing. After years of devoting her career to the art of medicine, Elisa has now devoted impassioned herself to a new kind of wellness- in the form of art.
