I often hike in Goldstream Park on Vancouver Island. This painting was inspired by those fall walks. I can smell the dampness and the closing down of summer in the air. There is coolness and the workings of fall in the air. I love this time of year.

About the Artist

Arden Rose

Canada

I have lived in British Columbia most of my life. I was brought up in Kamloops and spent a great deal of my childhood in the surrounding forests, mountains and lakes. I moved to Victoria when I was sixteen and swiftly fell in love with the island and the swell of the tides. These experiences deeply affected me and influenced my relationship to art.

I am mostly self-taught but have taken numerous courses and workshops from local and international artists. I would say I’ve been influenced by the expressionist movement, and by Modigliani in particular.
My favorite medium is acrylic paint and I often add collage elements to my work. I continue to explore various painting methods and applications and consider myself an eternal student of the arts.

I love painting florals, landscapes and nudes but my favorite is the portrait. I am fascinated by the role of the portrait in our lives and its representational nature. My portrait painting method is expressionistic and different from the standard “sitting”. Rather, I raise the question: Imagine if you could capture the essence of your truest self; What would she look like? Is she dressed in furs and flanked by wolves? Is she a fairy or woodlands nymph? A warrior, or princess or creator of magic?

My aim is to provide you with a piece of art that reflects your true self; that acknowledges your soul, and your vulnerability and the power that is truly you. The painting becomes your reminder of your truth.

On a more personal note I’m the Mom of two wonderful grown up daughters and I have a sweet little dog named Zoey who doesn't shed, bark or scratch at doors. I love red wine and I have a cute handyman named Bob.

I’m a member of Zebra Art Collective, a group of 15 artists who share studio space and a member of the Saanich Peninsula Arts and Crafts Association.

Please reach out to me if you would like to find out more about my process and application, or if you are curious about the various workshops that I offer. I am available for commissions and special requests. I would love to hear from you.
