Islands at Home Painting

A couple sit having coffee or tea. Despite the pastel colours and the flowers adorning their surroundings, they are unhappy. At first glance, they and their surroundings look beautiful, but the story of them is not - often we see other couple who only look like they are happy, yet we don't know their story. This couple in particular have ceased to communicate and feel a rift between them. I thought of this "narrative" because too seldom in households, each member of the family is like an "island", because they don't communicate between themselves and live in their own world without knowing the others'. Despite living together, family members often know little about each other's current lives.
