About The Artwork
For this painting I was inspired by a 'Japanese Gate' as the title says, which I have seen at the 'Royal Botanic Gardens' in London. I really like the balance between the colours at this painting, the subtle shades of green in combination with the bright pink/orange surfaces. I feel that the rounded shapes inspired by the glass sculptures from the garden completes the whole composition.

My name is Bianca Andreea Mierlea. I am a Romanian artist, born in 1999, based in London. I just graduated from 'Chelsea College of Arts' -UAL , BA (Hons) Fine Art. My practice has always been about colours and painting in general. As an artist I like to push my limits and experiment as much as I can. In my current work and painting practice I am combining abstraction with figurative elements: architectural details with female figures. Through my works I am exploring the position and the role of women in public spaces, how they were perceived centuries ago in comparison to nowadays. As part of my research I use my walking journeys around London and also from my hometown Brasov, Romania. In my paintings I like to use vibrant colours and strong brushstrokes.
