About The Artwork

This is a large banner painting from my series, banners and flags. This piece is a progressive color journey from red to green and back again, with each step between a slightly varied shade of the one before it. Like the notes on a piano, each wedge of color is part of a progression from one tone to the next. This hangs from small hooks sewn to the back. It can be hung vertically or horizontally, and is designed to be hung draped or flat, depending on choice.

Artist Statement: I create bold, abstract, geometric paintings in encaustic and painted collage. In my work, I use the logic and formality of geometry as a framework to stir associations, ideas, and memories from the realms of the physical and non-physical. My process is intuitive, combining chance with careful decision-making to create balance and harmony with color and form. The play of light and movement are recurring themes. The resulting images are a visual language designed to spark the imagination and be freely interpreted by the viewer. Artist Bio: (b.1968, Pittsfield, MA) works in encaustic and painted collage, using abstraction and geometry to visualize an inner landscape. Domenica holds a BFA from Cornell University and a post-baccalaureate degree from the School of Visual Arts. She has participated in many solo and two person shows in places including as the Southern Vermont Arts Center, Manchester, VT, the Yellow Studio Gallery in Cross River, NY, Corners Gallery, Ithaca, NY, and the Gallery at East Hill in Ithaca, NY. Residing in Ithaca, NY, Domenica manages the Petrune Gallery, and is co-founder of the Cayuga Arts Collective, a non-profit for artists in the Finger Lakes Region. Her work can be found in private and public collections all over the world.
